Infomorph Synchronizing

So when it was announced that the new clone jump timer skill, Infomorph Synchronizing, would only reduce said timer by one hour per level, my first reaction was "Meh. Irrelevant." After ruminating on it for a bit, that initial impression was wrong.

I still think an eight hour reduction in the timer at level V would have been perfect, but that would have likely caused a bunch of new complaints. It would have required a 1.6 hour reduction per skill level and many people would have been "Waah! Not an integer! Make it an integer!"

A maximum five hour reduction is not that bad, really. I think it will work for the majority of players. Including myself.

Most people start playing the game at a fairly fixed time each day (especially weekdays). And weekday play times, for most people, last between four and six hours. So a five hour timer means that people can return to a previous clone the next day before the start of their play.

The way it worked previously was quite annoying. Let's say I generally start playing at 6PM most weekdays. Let's say my clone is in TVN-FM. Let's say at 8PM, Goonswarm announces a fun operation starting from 1DH-SX. I happen to have a clone there, so I jump to 1DH to take part in that operation. The next day, I log into the game again at 6PM, but I'm stuck in 1DH until 8PM, due to the 24 hour timer. So even if Gents are running a fun op out of TVN at 7PM, I can't take part, because I can't clone jump back for another hour. It creates a level of frustration and annoyance for the player.

The new five hour reduction (with Infomorph Synchronizing V) alleviates this problem entirely. The next day, when I log in at 6PM, I can immediately clone jump back to TVN-FM.

Of course, it's only a five hour reduction, so for some people this will be cutting it close especially if they have lengthier play times. Which is why I think an eight hour reduction would work for nearly every player in this regard. Even so, five hours is not terrible, it's just not going to be ideal for a certain segment of the playing population.

For those people who wanted to see reductions on the order or twelve or sixteen hours, meaning they could clone jump every twelve or eight hours, that, in my opinion, is simply over-powered. Power projection is already bad enough without people clone jumping across New Eden two or three times per 24 hour period.

A five hour reduction is fine. An eight hour reduction would have been ideal. Anything more, it defeats the limitations that clone jumping is supposed to incur upon the player. That limitation is basically one clone jump per daily play session, without being annoying or frustrating. Five hours does this for quite a lot of people, eight would do it for nearly everybody.

This is a good mechanic. And if CCP wants to tweak the number upwards in the future, they have that option.
