Alliance Tournament XI - Dominixes, Waffles, and Surprises

The first weekend of Alliance Tournament XI could have been called Triple Dominix Weekend Extravaganza. So many Dominix teams. I am so over Dominix set-ups. I can't wait until next week when teams begin banning the damned things. It will be nice to see some variation.

(And whereas the Dominix might be over-powered for the tournament, it's not OP in the field. There's a good reason why you don't see the Dominix as part of many alliance fleet comps.)

I love surprise set-ups. Last year, it was that Agony fight, where they had well under the allowed pilots, they looked dead out of the gates, yet almost pulled off an amazing victory. If it weren't for somebody from Exodus figuring out what was going via the stream, and then relaying that to their team, Agony might have very well pulled out that victory. Agony and their mystery logi Tengu. A team that was on the verge of winning 3-nil (or something like that.) A tinker set-up before tinker set-ups started to become a thing in tournaments.

That Agony fight was a highlight of Alliance Tournament X.

Yesterday, we were treated to something similar, when Red vs. Blue pulled out a triple Gnosis set-up. A straight up WTF moment for the spectator when that team composition came up on screen. Gnosises? The hell? "RvB y u want 2 die?" RvB didn't just win with that comp, they stomped all over No Holes Barred with it. 100 - 26.

So far, RvB's Gnosis fight has been the highlight of Alliance Tournament XI. More importantly, it's turned me from a doubter into a fan.

So many so serious ads from alliances during the tournament.

I'm not sure how the ad system works for the Alliance Tournament, but some really boring alliance ads were played far too often. I'm assuming then that the more one pays CCP in PLEX, the more one's ad will appear. Rote Kapelle's ad is boring as shit. FCON's ad too. RvB has one amusing ad (ship sex!) coupled with another really dull ad. Pandemic Legion's ad is uninsprired. Adhocracy's is trying to imitate an EVE trailer. Black Legion. Dark Taboo. Arg. Stop trying to be super serious.

In advertising, I want to see something odd, funny, something that sticks with me after the tournament day is done.

The following two Sniggwaffe ads, these need to be played more often during the tournament. Both win the Advertisement of the Tournament Award. They are firing on all cylinders. I'm still humming the waffle song.



Of course I like french toast. (And yes, I know Snigg did not create this song. But, it's the first time I've ever heard it before this weekend.)



If the Dancing Girl had cracked any sort of smile, the entire effect would have been ruined. Her complete disinterest sells the video. I'm also curious what the hell she is putting on her waffles ... tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise, Aunt Jemima artificially-flavoured syrup? (And I could do with more Dancing Girl and less Shadoo.)

Or maybe there are copyright issues involved if these ads are played too often.

Can't wait for next week. Alliance Tournament is always a fantastic time for EVE.
