Alliance Tournament XI - Day One Wrap-Up and Day Two Predictions

I only watched the afternoon matches. The tournament begins at 07:00 where I am located. A tad too early to be getting up on a Saturday for me. Euros obviously have the Alliance Tournament viewing advantage. It's not CCP's fault. That's just the way timezones work. Hard to expect them to start the tournament at maybe 17:00 their time and run it will into the middle of the Iceland night. Once this weekend is over, the start time becomes a little more reasonable 09:00 start at my location.

I was faring well in my predictions until after the break. At which point a 70% prediction rate turned into a 59% prediction rate. I got 19 right, 13 wrong, of the 32 matches on Saturday. If I were doing the eve-bet.com thing, I probably would have come out ahead.

There were no real surprises on day one. The teams that most people figured would win, did. I was happy to see Test Alliance get through with a win. I predict they'll win again tomorrow. Goonswarm lost, as predicted. They'll lose again tomorrow and be out of the tournament, they don't stand a chance against Outbreak. Late Night Alliance won, but will lose tomorrow against Clockwork Pineapple, again I don't think they stand much of a chance in that match-up.

Poor Mildly Sober, as they demonstrate the importance of reading stuff outside of the client. Most of their team were deemed illegal, which they would have known about had they read the rules of the competition. In defiance or tantrum, they fielded a small team of haulers, which were alpha'd off the field in short order.

Wormhole teams seem to be doing pretty well. Which makes some sense, since alliance tournament team size and composition probably more closely mirrors the sorts of combat they engage on a regular basis. If Goonswarm could field 500 Caracals, they'd probably do pretty well.

Here are the predictions for day two. Sixteen teams will be departing the tournament on Sunday.
