Alliance Tournament XI - Day One Predictions

This will be my third Alliance Tournament experience. The biggest change will be the format. Moving away from the very flawed round-robin format, to a double elimination format. This is something many of us called for last year. This will ensure no meaningless matches. Every match will have importance, no team can slough off a match as pointless. There might still be gamesmanship, horse-trading among teams, but that's okay. The ability to buy a win is a long-standing alliance tournament tradition. We should never aim to remove EVE Online from the tournament.

Here are my predictions for the first day of the tournament. Matches in green, I'm reasonably sure about. Matches in yellow, are too close to call, but I give a sense of the direction I'm leaning.

Two very strong teams meeting each other right away, one to be relegated to the losers bracket afterwards. That's a tough draw and there are two such on the first day. Match #6, Outbreak vs Verge of Collapse. Verge were the winners last year, and Outbreak is an exceptionally strong team who were banned from competing in 2012. And then there is Match #18, HUN Reloaded and Darkside, another two strong teams favoured to both reach deep into the tournament, one of them will have a harder job doing that by day two.

Who will go deep into the tournament? Who will be the surprises? I suspect Urine Alliance will be one of the new faces that we see on the final weekend. I suspect we'll see most of the usual suspects, the Hydras, the Pandemics, the Darksides, the HUNs, the Exoduses. Will Test and RvB surprise again this year? I'm rooting for Test Alliance, but I doubt we see them past the second weekend. I suspect the same fate for RvB.

Goonswarm? They're terrible at Alliance Tournament. I can't see that changing anytime soon. Great at taking your moons and sov, bad at winning trophies.

Weil FL33T unbedingt noch ihre scheiß Factional Warfare Kampagne machen musste, obwohl es höchste Zeit war die Allianz zu gründen...

Genauso gut könnte ich jetzt behaupten, weil WARF. dauernd unser Training torpediert hat :-P

Fakt ist einfach: es gab im Vergleich zu letztem Jahr eine Regeländerung, mit der Olmops und ich als Hauptorganisatoren nicht gerechnet hatten.
