The War in Fountain - Can the CFC Be Stopped?

It seems a fait accompli that Fountain will fall into CFC hands. It won't happen today. It won't happen tomorrow. It might not happen by the end of July. But it seems obvious that it will happen. Test is broke, financially and spiritually. N3 is increasingly being drawn east to deal with Solar Fleet. And Pandemic Legion seems to be losing interest.

Test made a big hullabaloo of announcing that they've finally cleared their ship replacement queue. Throughout the announcement making sarcastic remarks about the prevailing perception that Test is broke and poor. Yet, in their announcement they thank a couple of Test folks who donated 40 billion ISK to help with that queue clearance. If a big donation to pay off debt is needed, then it's probably premature to start celebrating solvency.

Test can certainly continue to prosecute this war, but at a diminished capacity. They're going to be far more gun-shy with their expensive fleets, and are only going to commit the capital ships to the very important objectives.

The CFC, on the other hand, has a 14 trillion ISK warchest. They have at least 40 R64 moons in CFC (plus Fountain) territory that they are ready to exploit. (They already paid out 40 billion ISK to the people that found those moons after Odyssey released.) Word is that there are another 20 R64 moons which will be paid out shortly. So that's 60 moons, most of which are already in CFC territory. As The Mittani stated in early June, the CFC only needs 60 moons to remain at their pre-Odyssey state of profitability. They have those moons.

(After my last War in Fountain article, all these messages started coming in from various CFCers, informing me of the hidden financial state of the alliance. Nobody seemed peeved when I said that I might use the numbers, so here I am using them. Bear in mind, this is still second-hand information. Take it with whatever grains of salt you want.)

Once Fountain is captured, what next? Why not grab some more moons? Maybe Delve. Keep the membership busy, while continuing to pad the CFC warchest given another future "moon rebalance", or perhaps defense against some new group pushing back. While Delve is being grabbed, why not Querious too. Hell, N3 is already being pulled in two directions, Querious might not even be a challenge. Might as well grab what moons are in Period Basis, while in the neighbourhood.

How far could the CFC possibly go? What would it take to stop them? All of nullsec rising up, united? All of New Eden? The CFC may very well stop at Fountain. They may take only what they need. I don't think there's any real desire to grind Test under a heel, to kick them out of sovereignty nullsec. (Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see Test limp back into the welcoming arms of the coalition in August or September.) But once Fountain is captured the CFC will be the only superpower left in the game. The threat of the CFC will loom over all of the remaining middle powers. Say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing, maybe you're crushed under their heel.

Individual groups stand no chance. Can the individual groups set aside ego to work together against a common threat? Aside from the short-lived Test & Pals, they've shown no willingness or ability to do so thus far. The future of nullsec is probably the CFC rolling a polyhedral and then crushing some random group any time The Mittani feels the need to entertain his people.

If all this comes across as a dare to the rest of nullsec ? "Try to unseat us, mofos!" ? it is. I really doubt all of nullsec could get its shit together long enough to even challenge the CFC, but if it did, well holy hell that would be a fantastic fight indeed. Great War II. Come on, who wouldn't want that?
