One Thing Bugging Me About The Proposed Goon Rental Empire

Renters don't bother me. It gives people access to nullsec who wouldn't have access otherwise. These are people who want to be in nullsec but don't have the resources to take sovereignty themselves. It's a nice symbiotic relationship between landlord and renter.

The thing that bugs me about Goonswarm's renter proposal is that The Mittani stated, quite unequivocally, that Deklein will be off-limits to renters.

What the hell makes Deklein so special? Because Goons live there? Maybe I'm the odd man out, but I don't do my five daily prayers while facing VFK-IV and Mittanigrad. (Three prayers are facing TVN-FM and the other two towards Egghelende.)

Seems to me Deklein has some prime rental real estate, up near the region's tail end. Six or so jumps on either side of MZ1E-P. That's space that cannot be reached from non-CFC space in a single jump. Thus highly defensible. Quite safe from harassers. That space is so far from anywhere that it can be rented at a premium.

Putting the rental beta program into Vale of the Silent is silly, even as it pleases your average Gent looking for small gang fights. Anywhere in Vale is accessible via a single jump from non-CFC space. It's harasser heaven. People looking to disrupt Goon plans for a rental empire are going to come out in droves the moment the first renter takes their place in Vale. It's going to be hard to defend due to the sheer number of people wanting to screw with Goon plans. It's going to be damn near impossible for the first renters to do their PvE thing. The program is not going to look enticing to future renters, its going to be harder to convince them to take CFC space when the program wishes to expand. What is going to happen off the get-go in Vale of the Silent is not going to convince renters to take shade under our umbrella.

That tail end of Deklein would be an excellent spot to place the beta program. It gives renters the space to do their thing. It puts the CFC in a better position to defend, because those constellations can't be jumped straight into from empire space or Venal. It gives the CFC time to react to interlopers.

Sure, people will argue that Vale of the Silent is the better test case because it will mirror the reality for most CFC rental constellations in the future. I disagree. I think that the surge in activity over that first rental constellation will not be normal. There'll be so much activity against that constellation that it will simply make the beta program look terrible. The initial activity against CFC interests will be at a peak. Sure, over time that interest in disruption will level off, but how long will that take?

Start the beta program in more defensible constellations to begin with (even if not in Deklein.) By the time the rental empire starts to hit those easier to reach constellations, guerrilla action against our renters will have sunk to more manageable levels, both for the CFC and the renter.
