I'm a Sycophant! Where Does the CFC Go From Here?
(I've never talked to The Mittani. I've been on comms with him at the same time. Have never spoken directly to him.)
Yeah, my posts lately have been glowing where the CFC and Goonswarm are concerned. It is hard not to be impressed with the scale of their organization and management, though. It is hard not to be impressed with their accomplishments. It is hard not to be impressed with the team atmosphere, the level of cooperation within the CFC.
I've never been a Goon hater, though I have complained about aspects of their leadership in the past. For instance, their refusal to go to war early this year, when Test was chomping at the bit for a fight. I ridiculed the inane propaganda they put forth over that refusal ? that their unwillingness to wage war pre-Odyssey had nothing to do with protecting assets and everything to do with the mechanics of sovereignty warfare. Everything Goonswarm (and by extension the CFC) does revolves around the acquisition of wealth. Don't let the propaganda ever tell you otherwise. On the flipside, I've never complained about the ice interdictions or the burning Jitas, because I see those as good for the game as a whole. Generally, I've always seen Goonswarm as good for EVE Online. They create content. They create feuds. They create rivalries. They create dissent and resentment. They keep people playing, friend and enemy alike.
Lately, though, there's not been much to complain about. We had our war and it was a good one. I'm not opposed to CFC renters, since it gets more people who want to be in nullsec into nullsec. I've never been opposed to ice interdictions or hulkageddons or burning Jitas (if you think I'm a fan of more safety in highsec, then you've never read this blog.) I don't think it has anything to do with whether I'm currently CFC or not (though, no doubt, some of the internal propaganda has rubbed off.) Goonswarm is simply good for the game.
That said, now that the War in Fountain is over, now that we know moons aren't worth what they once were, is EVE Online heading once again for another big blue donut? Will the CFC sit back, allow that to happen, as they did through late 2012 and the first half of 2013? Does the CFC, as the strongest group in the game at the moment, have a responsibility to keep things chaotic? If there is such a thing as Goon culture, do they revive that old attitude, start stirring the shit in increasingly aggressive and large scale ways?
I've a couple issues with the potential direction of the CFC, directions I'd rather not see the coalition head. I'll start talking about those. Best to maybe start talking about those early, even if still too early to tell what is going to happen over the next bunch of months. Start the conversation now, rather than later.
Where does the CFC go from here? That's something I'll start writing about.
