Kill of the Week: Dumb people

Oh, I was oh-so-sorely tempted to go with this Orca.  Seriously... how dumb do you have to be?  Not only is this Orca fit ridiculously bad, not only does it have exactly zero EC drones aboard, it died solo to a stealth bomber with nearly a full drone bay of light drones!  Moron.  But no, I'll go with something else because people yell at me when I pick haulers or things that look like haulers.  But in my heart, that's the KOTW.  Excellent work, Kynric!  For the rest of you, if you don't carry one flight of EC drones in your Orca, you deserve to lose your Orca.  Simple as that.

So no, I'm going to go with this instead:

When is the proper time to aggress on someone who is suspect-flagged?  Let's just say this: it's not when you're flying a non-PvP fit 15 billion ISK Scorpion Navy Issue, that's when.  But that's what this prize idiot did: he figured he'd get himself a kill-mail on a guy who was suspect-flagged outside a mission-running high-sec station.  Except it's a Vindicator.  Know what Vindicators do really well?  Bump your ass about a mile off the station's docking radius, and then 90% web you there.  And that's exactly what happened to this SNI.

Needless to say, nobody else was quite dumb enough to join this now newly limited engagement, so this SNI died friendless and alone, dropping some four billion ISK in loot on the suspect in the process.  Nice job, bonehead.  Hopefully you have learned something from your rather costly lesson.  You might enjoy this guy's corp's description text.  It doesn't exactly scream "elite PvP corp", know what I mean?

For you mission-runners out there, try not to do anything this dumb, k?  If a guy is suspect-flagged outside a station and you must engage him, I encourage that.  But PvP ships only please.  Never, ever risk your money-maker.  Not once, not ever.

Number of dead super-caps this week: 5

A busier than average week of dead super-caps this week.  The first one of the month and the week was this Nyx.  A travel-fit Nyx, to be precise, apparently killed on the same day its construction was completed, its combat fitting in its cargo hold.  Here's a hint for all you budding super-cap pilots: don't do this.  The combat fit of a super is only allowed anywhere near a super after it's safe in a POS shield somewhere, preferably a POS shield to which only you know the password.  The rest of the lesson is in this story on EVE News 24, which lists a goodly number of mistakes by the new and impatient Nyx pilot.  Hint: several jump freighters are lost in the telling of this story.

Next to die was this Nyx, ratting fit, to a Raiden fleet... the very same Raiden fleet that destroyed this small POS and its carrier defense about 30 minutes prior to the Nyx going down.  I have the horrible sinking sensation that another super pilot didn't get the memo, logged in, warped to the prior location of his small POS, and... yeah.  ;-)  That's just a guess, though.  I wasn't able to find the real story.  Anyone know it?

EDIT (12/Feb/2013):  Apparently,I gave this Nyx pilot too much credit... heh.  An anonymous commenter provides a video and a brief story how this Nyx died and it's even less smart than warping to a destroyed POS.  It's below in the comments...

Next up was this Aeon.  The good news is that a detailed story on how it died is available, courtesy of TMDC.  The bad news is that the story is -- and I shit you not -- 2000 words, ten pictures, and three videos long.  So I shall summarize: "Two super-caps hot-drop dread fleet that was killing a POS, intent on getting some ganks.  Sub-caps supporting the dreads bump one of the supers around until it can be bubbled and ganked with the help of a bat-phone.  This is why your capital fleet should have a sub-cap support fleet."  Fifty words.

Next up, this Aeon.  Story on this one appears to be equally simple: "Hey man, I need to move my Aeon with all my ships and mods in it through Erila.  Can you help me out by lighting a mid-point cyno there for me?"  One more time: if you need to move your super and you're not part of a fleet, provide your own cyno.  Only one person needs to know you're moving your super: you.  You need to know.  Nobody else does.

And finally, just before the buzzer ended this week of pain, this FA Avatar went down, courtesy of the fine folks of the rest of the known galaxy except for Goonswarm and TEST.  Hell, there are Cult of War ships on this KM, who as far as I can tell jumped in via a wormhole from 2010.  Marlona Sky has 1300 words on TMDC about this loss which I will again summarize: "Do you mind if I make the password to the POS your titan is in public?  Don't worry, those PL Machariels are just here to rat."

Why yes, I am in a whimsical mood this evening.  Dumb people do that to me.  Thank you for noticing.  ;-)
