Kill of the Week: Ship torture

I love Bhaalgorns. I love them, and I love their little brother the Ashimmu. I don't get to fly mine nearly enough. But there are some things that the Bhaal is good at and some things that it clearly not-so-good at. And one of the not-so-good things is running missions... or whatever this Bhaalgorn was doing.

Dear Heaven, what was this person doing to this ship?! You know, I hear there is a shield-tanking laser-armed ship that's quite good at PvE. Given the age of the character, this one probably just comes down to simply not doing your research before picking a ship to fly. For the record, a Nightmare does 50% more damage and has slightly better than a low-50s average resist tank...

Pick the right ship for the job at hand! Pick ships for and fit them to their bonuses! Even the newest EVE player should be aware of that.

I want to start the honorable mentions with this Rapier. God love wormhole players, but you guys have way too much ISK. I can't decide if that's a crazy good armor Rapier fit... or just crazy. He certainly tanked a gratifying amount of damage, no doubt thanks to the carriers that died with him. But without any way to run, his eventual fate was sealed. In the meantime, he held down six ships -- five of them T3s -- for friendly capital ships to kill so you can't say he sold his life cheaply! But still, I don't think he broke even on the ISK war. Thanks to an alert reader for sending me this one!

Other honorable mentions run the gamut this week:
Those last two in particularly deserve some additional words. You missioners with 10 billion ISK mission ships either need to keep them docked or just self destruct them now. We're definitely going to see an increase in suicide ganking activities going into the spring as the larger coalitions lack other targets. We see this after every major war: as null-sec dials down, a lot of null-sec PvPers head for high-sec to build up ISK in the easiest way possible: taking it from people who stay in high-sec.

Don't make me write about you. ;-)

On the 4th, there was another gank that put anything done this week to shame, but I'll cover that in next week's update.

Number of dead super-caps last week: 1

Remember how last week I said a Wyvern was killed on Monday but it would be covered this week? Yeah. That was the only super killed this week as the Halloween War slowly winds down and goes into wrap-up phase. The Wyvern itself was a Brothers of Tangra (PL renter alliance) ship killed in Feyth by a DARKNESSdot gang. EVEnews 24 has a short story on the kill, which was a straight-ahead bait op launched against a known hot-dropper of ratters. So a fake ratter was created in a strongly tanked Archon and the super pilot bit down hard.

But I guess I should also mention this Charon, which was carrying a couple of supers worth of minerals... whoopsie!

That's all for this week...
