My Battle.net Authenticator, Hearthstone, and the EVE CCG as Mobile
So, I'm not going to #tweetfleet all my new posts, unless it has something to do with CCP Games to some degree. This post does talk about CCP properties. If I talk about The Walking Dead game or XCOM, I won't #tweetfleet those posts. So no worries, I'm not going to bother #tweetfleet with non-EVE related rambles.
I so badly want to play Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. I've been watching Kristoffer Touborg (aka CCP Soundwave) streaming his Hearthstone drafts. He runs an excellent stream. He's very talkative. He explains his every move. And he answers questions from chat (though I keep all my questions Hearthstone related, because to ask him EVE stuff would be rude.)
To sign up for beta, you need a battle.net account. I have one. I used to play World of Warcraft. I quit just before Cataclysm released. Except I have an authenticator tied to the account. And I lost the damned thing in a move two years ago.
I figure my chances of getting into the beta will be easier with an old battle.net account than with a brand-new account. So today, I sent off a photo of my driver's license. It's a requirement if I want the authenticator detached from my account. Urg. Once that is done (I have no idea how long it takes), I'll reattach a mobile authenticator to the account. I still like the idea of the authenticator.
Like I said, Hearthstone looks like so much fun. And I desperately want to play the damned thing. Hell, if any of you have a beta key, do a bro a favour. Email it to me (poeticstanziel atsign gmail period com) or direct message me on the Twitter (@poeticstanziel.)
I've always enjoyed CCGs (collectible card games). My first was the Star Trek: The Next Generation CCG. Good memories playing that while in university. I also played the Spycraft CCG, though this game, while quite good, never really caught on. Outside of card games, I played the Mechwarrior Clix games by WizKids, for quite awhile too.
I stay away from collectible stuff now, because I get too damned obsessed with collecting it all. I end up spending inordinate amounts of money trying to get every damned card. And then I eventually get bored of the game, and I end up eBaying it all at a loss. But to get it all away from me, I don't mind too much about the loss. It's not like this stuff is really an investment anyhow, there's just too much pristine product out in the wild.
But computer-based CCGs. I think that solves both my problems. I get to play some cool games that I enjoy, and I avoid that collecting mentality. I've never been into collecting stuff electronically. I never hoarded rare stuff in World of Warcraft, I never tried to collect one of every pet or every mount. And in EVE I usually sell all the rare, limited stuff (ships, clothing, implants) I get from various promotions.
I've heard good things about the EVE CCG, even if it never really caught on and was eventually ended. It seems with CCP now entering the mobile market, perhaps there is a marriage made in heaven here. Convert the EVE CCG into a mobile app. Some people say the CCG is too complex to code, but that's fine, simplify it a bit. It's not like CCP is not allowed to adjust the game for a new platform. The game is out-of-print anyhow. I'd play a mobile EVE CCG in a heartbeat. No shit. I would. A guaranteed collection of people to play with, and a game I already like and understand. It's an easy sell to me.
Heck, CCP could even bleed more PLEX out of EVE by offering PLEX for CCG Bux conversions.
Do this CCP Unifex. The EVE CCG on mobile.
