The War in Fountain - Fweddit Chooses a Side

Yesterday, speaking with my Fweddit bros, they had not chosen a side. They were still shooting all the things in Fountain, much to the consternation of Test and Pals, a number of which had set Fweddit blue without consulting whether Fweddit was going to set them blue back.

Today, I see Fweddit has chosen a side. A broadcast from The Mittani states: "Amusingly Fweddit - the Reddit faction warfare organization - has allied with the CFC against TEST."

Which is surprising. Surprised me. I thought Fweddit would stay neutral, keep shooting all the things. For some reason though, Test and the CFC were falling over themselves trying to get Fweddit to choose a side.

Betrayal is a word heard with some frequency now on Test comms and on the EVE subreddit (Test's non-EVE stomping grounds.) Whereas Fweddit is not a Test Alliance pet (which goes against common perception), there is still a large contingent of Test alts in Fweddit, which got its initial start via Test players bored with the current state of nullsec and looking for more gudfite opportunities. Fweddit received their initial injection of startup ISK from Test Alliance. Since then and year later, Fweddit (the actual alliance is called I Whip My Slaves Back and Forth, stemming from their Amarr roots) has grown considerably, well and beyond their original Test/Reddit beginnings.

Fweddit's CEO is a Goon, specifically from Thunderwaffe. Another director is from Moar Tears. Previous directors have been from Test and Pandemic Legion. Fweddit has tendrils into all the major nullsec alliances. What started as a single corporation in a single alliance, is now a group of fourteen corporations, and well over 1000 players.

DurrHurrDurr of Test alliance had offered Fweddit full forum, Jabber, Mumble, and wiki integration with Test Alliance services. He offered full docking rights. He even offered them a spot in their ship replacement program.

The Mittani must have offered similar terms plus a bit more. An offer of sovereignty in Delve? Possible. I'm not sure, such information is above my pay grade, in both the CFC and Fweddit. Though I have heard rumours that the CFC has offered Delve sovereignty to six or seven different groups. It might all come down to a participation competition.

Why would any nullsec coalition be squabbling over Fweddit? To any outsider, they would look like small potatoes. People still look at Fweddit as a scrub, newbie organization. Even with well over 1000 members, it's a perception that Fweddit has had a hard time shaking amongst the general EVE population. Nullsec leadership know better. That's 1000 people you get to add to your war effort. A third of those people can easily fly the currently popular nullsec fleet doctrines in top tiered ships, and the rest of the alliance can fit well into newbie and support doctrines.

I can understand why Test would want Fweddit into the fold. They need numbers. But the CFC, that's a tad baffling. Considering how large the CFC is, a corp the size of Fweddit simply gets lost in the mix.

One theory is that Mittens predicted this exact outpouring of anger, hurt and betrayal from Test Alliance over the Fweddit announcement. Fweddit as a CFC ally potentially lowers Test Alliance morale. The announcement has members of Test potentially wondering, "If not even Fweddit will stand with us, then what friends do we have left?" If that's the case, if that was the plan, it could be what pushes the CFC over the top.
