That War Thing In Fountain

Back in January and February, I wrote a bunch about the need for war in nullsec, specifically between the CFC and what was then the HBC. As much as TEST leadership wanted a war, their allies (mainly Pandemic Legion, one of the most risk-averse groups in this game) did not. TEST leadership went into freefall over the disagreements. Montolio found himself on the outside looking in.

War didn't happen earlier this year, because moons were valuable, and the people holding them didn't want to risk what they owned. War is happening now because moons are not quite so valuable, and the people holding them need more of them. It all comes down to moons out in nullsec.

In the quest for moons, I would have preferred we take from Pandemic Legion. Cripple those dudes financially. But the Legion are smart diplomatically. Their directors are mostly made up of old-timers from most of the other major alliances and coalitions. They have friends everywhere. Thus nobody is going to attack Pandemic Legion, though they are free to attack everybody. I've not seen any Legion in Fountain so far, which is surprising, because if there's anything the Legion loves doing, it's kicking people while they're down, dropping on the easiest of targets. Right now, it seems they're honing their skills rolling over Brave Newbies and practicing to get roflstomped in Alliance Tournament XI by Hydra Reloaded.

As for TEST, who it is we're fighting in Fountain, their morale is at an all-time low. Their leadership is a mess. And the grunt level players just aren't finding the motivation to log into the game to defend their stuff. Compare to their motivation for war back earlier this year. It's night and day. Back in February, they probably would have put up a real fight, some real resistance. Now, their fleets are generally half the size of the CFC's and TEST are getting rolled in every encounter.

There's a real begging quality to TEST's pleas to their membership, and in their pleas to the community. First there is BoodaBooda's post about the Fountain campaign. There's nothing about that post that doesn't sound desperate. And that is unfortunate. TEST has the numbers to definitely put up a real fight, to occasionally push the CFC's shit in, but they simply don't have the motivation to do so. What TEST really needs is the return of Montolio. Monty could put the fighting spirit back into them.

Then there's this hilarious post from the douchebags over at PonyWaffe (because ponies + waffes = cool.) This is the ultimate in begging, asking the larger community to go AFK cloak in CFC ice belt systems. Because if you do that, Fountain will be saved. Or something.

We're getting some fights, so the war in Fountain is not completely terrible. TEST has not entirely rolled over and given up. But they are lacking any leadership that could really fire up the fighting spirit. They have the numbers, perhaps greater numbers than even the CFC, but just no motivation. CFC members, on the other hand, are aching for fights. An 08:00 evetime Tengu fleet that fills up in a matter of minutes. You don't get much more off-(every-)timezone than that, yet so many people are chomping at the bit for action that they're willing to fleet up no matter when.

It's still early days, though. Hopefully TEST can get its shit together and find the will to put up some resistance. This could all be so much more fun than it has been. For everybody. Obviously I'm in this to see the CFC win, but it wouldn't be a terrible thing if we occasionally got our asses handed to us.
