Pro-Tip For Odyssey Patch Day
Just the refactoring of a quarter of the skill tree alone, probably makes Odyssey one of the more complex deployments in recent memory.
Although CCP has had excellent deployments for as long as I've been playing EVE Online (a few months before Incarna was released), there are areas of this particular expansion which have a higher than normal probability of seeing some problems. There could be some skill point screw-ups. The UI improvements usually mean there saved setting screw-ups. There could be more launcher issues.
Let's not forget the recent server outage yesterday, and some continuing problems with server connectivity in the hours leading up to the deployment today. Things will probably go well, as usual, but the risk is likely higher with Odyssey than any expansion in the last two years.
The only pro-tip that matters? Do not be a first adopter. Wait a few hours. Unless you're a market trader, what's the rush? Follow the forums. Follow Twitter. Check out the experiences and feedback from those that do rush to log into Odyssey first. Wait for any quickie emergency patches that CCP might deploy.
Why be one of those dudes that's all "Fuck you CCP. Fuck you and your shitty installations!" Instead, wait a few hours, get a sense for when things are alright with the deployment. Be one of those people that didn't rush into a potential fuck-up, that waited for any emergency patches, be all "Awesome job CCP. Great deployment, yet again."
I'll be waiting at least eight hours before logging in. Unless you need to hit the markets immediately or update a training queue, is there any particular need to be one of the first onto Tranquility?
Be safe. Look both ways before you log in.
