"Am I a Goon?" & "Sov is still boring?"
Of course, I am not a Goon. I belong to none of the Goonswarm Federation corporations. I am a member of Paxton Industries, which is part of the Gentleman's Agreement alliance, which is part of the Clusterfuck Coalition (CFC).
I ask the question, not of the Goons and nullsec people, but of everyone else. Since I moved to nullsec, since I joined a CFC member alliance, I've received a few comments along the lines of "Now you're part of the problem."
I wonder, are most CFC members automatically painted with the Goon brush by the players? I know I've used the Goon shorthand in the past when speaking of the CFC, including Goon logos with articles and such as that. Mainly because it's convenient, and mainly because Goonswarm Federation are the leaders of the CFC. The CFC does nothing territorial and/or diplomatic without Goonswarm approval. That said, I do know and realize that Gents are not Goons. That Razor are not Goons. That Legion of Death are not Goons. If I were to write on any of those organizations specifically, I would not paint them with the Goon brush.
I've never been anti-Goon. I've been critical at times, but mostly I've been fascinated with their culture and their impact on EVE Online. I've celebrated many of their initiatives, from ice interdiction to burning Jita. But I've also been critical of their recent stagnancy, the big blue donut, the protection of their technetium assets.
I may be part of the CFC now, but I am most definitely not a Goon. I'm not a member of Something Awful. I've no desire to ever become a member (that website is terrible and ancient, to be honest.)
Am I part of the problem? I'm just a cog in the machine. I have no bearing on what the machine does and does not want to do. I'd still love to see a Great War. I'm not at all bitter about structure bashing. The odd time we do it in lowsec, I've not hated it and have found it relaxing. That may change, but for now, I'm actually looking forward to it.

I guess this brings me around to those statements I've been receiving, that I am "now part of the problem." The problem, I'm guessing, is the big blue donut, the stagnancy in nullsec. I've never really been affected by anything happening in nullsec, whether they are at war or not has never had any impact upon my game. My interest in a more active nullsec has always been the stories that evolve from those conflicts. I enjoy being on the sidelines and reading about the wars and the drama. For the past twelve months, there have been no stories, no drama, other than bitching about a lack thereof.
Odyssey, of course, could change all this. Just as I joined the CFC, I received several messages telling me that I'm joining at just the right time. Things in nullsec are heating up, I'm told. Some possible conflicts are beginning to percolate.
Already there are some CFC deployments happening Delve way. They seem mostly aimed at harassing Test Alliance. OTEC is still in effect, so there are still certain off-bound actions that cannot be taken. But mostly it seems to be a case of American foreign policy. Don't break the strict letter of any agreements, but pestering the opposing side into breaking those agreements themselves seems to be the order of the day. That seems to be the unspoken message, at any rate.
Some people feel that Delve is going to be quite important come Odyssey. That a lot of the new R64 moons are going to be in the southwest. I discount that myself. According to the devblog, reseeding is going to be entirely random, and is going to be random across New Eden. So Delve is not going to be anything more or less special than any other region of New Eden.
With respect to the CFC and Delve, I think it's just the soft spot that The Mittani has for the area. Pre-2010, every major nullsec story has evolved out of Delve. At one time, Delve was a focal point of every major battle, every major alliance collapse in the game. As technetium became more a focus for western nullsec alliances, Delve began to lose its standing as a focal point for conflict. The stories started to shift to the northwest of New Eden, where all the money was concentrated.
Delve died.
Since 2010, The Mittani has tried to bring back glory to Delve. A year and a bit ago, he tried hard to create a thunderdome out of the area. It was shortlived. It is 2013 and he's trying something different. Delve nostalgia is strong with Mittens.
There have been a few smallish staging areas set-up in Delve for the CFC. I doubt there's any goal, even were Test to break OTEC, of taking space. With the T2 bottlenecks broken in Odyssey, I would expect that nullsec alliance income will fall across the board, which means taking more space becomes burden not boon. If anything, I'd expect (and hope) that sov holdings will shrink, allowing folks on the waiting list to set-up shop in nullsec again (or for the first time.)
This cog has no idea what is in store, war-wise, come Odyssey. But it seems some pieces are being moved into place. An in case their needed scenario.
