Good news x4

Four quickies.  On paper they're unrelated, but they all involve good news.

Over the weekend, for only the fifth time, the count of logged-in users to EVE Online's Tranquility server passed 60000.  It wasn't a record-setting day.  That's still held by 23 January 2011, with 63170 players logged in.  But it was a busy day in New Eden nonetheless!  Chribba was nice enough to pull the previous record-holding days for Noizygamer and I.  Thanks, Chribba!

Second, remember how a few months ago, I was hoping for CCP to break out of the string of sub-par trailers they were putting out and wow us with something exceptional?  It didn't really happen with the Retribution trailer, which was amusing but ultimately not memorable.  But they've finally delivered... for DUST 514.  The new "Gathering Forces" trailer is the best video CCP has made in two years.  The damn thing almost made me want to play DUST again.  Almost.  Well done to the team that put this together!  Promote this thing widely, CCP!

Related: I was amused to see a PS3 bundle for sale in my local Best Buy this week.  The bundle came with the PS3, extra controller,  Farcry 3, Uncharted 3, and DUST 514.  The same bundle was also selling for a while at an east coast warehouse chain but is now sold out.  Great to see CCP on a national marketing stage again!  The last time I can remember that happening was 2009.  It's apparently working.  According to David Reid, millions of people have played DUST.

Final thing: +1 Internet to blogger Chirality who asked CSM7: What is CCP going to do to promote wide participation in the upcoming election?  And another +1 Internet to Hans Jagerblitzen, who answered the mail in fine, detailed fashion.  It's worth your time to go give it a read, because interesting things are said!

Good news is all around!
